Sunday we'll have a morning tea at our place with my family.
I'll also be taking part in my first market on the Saturday! I'll be selling my hand crocheted facewashers and frubbies there. So if you are in the Port Elliot are on Easter Saturday pop up to the Fig Tree Market on The Strand 11am-3pm and say hi, would love to see you there.

Have you ever noticed how dusty it gets under your bed? Mine get aweful!

So this week it's time to give the bed area a good deep clean.

It's best to try do this on a day when it's good for drying. Will make life so much easier.
If you can, take your mattress outside to air. The sun will do it the world of good. Vacuum your mattress if you like, great way to get rid of lots of dust and yuck stuff.
When you place your mattress back on your bed, flip and rotate it if you mattress needs it. Some new mattress are non flip.

Would love for you to share you freshly made beds. Love to gander and everyones gorgeous linens.

Thrifty finds

Yesterday we had to take a trip down to Christies Beach to run some errands. Of course I had to fir in a trip to Spotty and Savers. Spotty for some more lime green crochet thread for more LTC goodies, and Savers...well I just have to see if I can find a bargain, especially vinty sheets and the boys love to find new quilt covers for themselves too.

They were in luck. Ethan had it in his head he was going to find a new Ben 10 quilt cover. And he did within a minute of walking into the store! Was a very bright blerky one (insert a pic of me screwing my face up) but I turned around and found the most perfect quilt cover for him. The moment he saw it he said "I have to have this one!". Didn't want the Ben 10 one anymore (Yay!!). SO I sent Brian over a row to look for a matching pillowcase and we were in luck.
Ethan is jet and aeroplane mad. He loves his "Top Gun' quilt cover.

While the boys were searching for the jet pillow case, Eli spied a Thomas one and wanted it. Again I turned around and guess what I found???
This quilt cover was handmade and is basically brand new!

I grabbed these sheets out of the linen press and washed them up too.
They used to be Randalls. They are flannel though but the nights are getting cooler here.

Found this flannel Hot Wheels flat sheet in really good condition too.
The plan will be to back it with a plain blue flannel sheet I swear I have in the linen press and turn it into a quilt cover.
Flannel quilt covers are so nice in winter.

Some more vinty sheets to add to my collection.
They were all labelled single but the two blue ones were much bigger than the yellow
so I think they must be double bed.

I saw this vinty Christmas Table cloth too. I hummed and harred over it for ages and in the end I decided that I would kick myself if I didn't go home with it.
It's too small for our dining table (threw it over our coffee table to take this pic)
but it will be fine on an angle with another tablecloth underneath.

A close up of the cute little vinty children

Lastly I bought these two pairs of pants for the boys.
The cargos for Ethan and the jeans for Eli.
The jeans are just like new and he already has Cars tops he can wear with them.

Not a bad score all up I don't think. Have you found some fab thrifty finds lately?

Menu Planning 15th ~ 28th March

Wow last fortnight went rather quick. Can't believe it's time to menu plan again.
Our freezers running a bit low and finances are a little tight so we don't want to do a meat buy until after Easter if we can help it. So a few cheaper meals have been thrown in this fortnight.

Thurs ~ Bacon and eggs
Fri ~ Sausages and veg
Sat ~ French Onion chicken casserole
Sun ~ Meat pie and veg
Mon ~ Roast Chicken
Tues ~ Slow Roasted Lamb Shanks
Wed ~ Rissoles and veg

Thurs ~ Quiche
Fri ~ Sausage casserole
Sat ~ Speedway!!!!!!!!!!!
Sun ~ BBQ lunch for my friends birthday
Mon ~ Corned Beef
Tues ~ Chicken Snitzels and veg
Wed ~ Spaghetti Bolognaise

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do on the baking front. I do need to do some to take to Speedway to help us save some money on food but not sure what. Well other than Hot Dog Savouries, they have already been requested.

Do you menu plan? Would love to hear it?

Let's Get Organised Wk10 ~ Bedside tables

Wow double figures!!!! Hard to believe we are nearly 1/5th of the way through the year!

How is everyone going? Managing to keep up? Or have a few thing on the To Do List? don't worry there will be time to catch up along the way. Some weeks, like this week, shouldn't take too long.

So now, seeing as we have decluttered the top of our dressers lets deal with our bedside tables.

This weeks mission:
~ Declutter the top of your bedside table
~ If you have drawers declutter them too
~ Consider lining your drawers with some nice paper and maybe place a fragrant sachet in there too

What is on your bedside table?
Mine is partially covered with a rectangular doily. It's just a cheap one we bought to protect the nice wooden top when we bought our bedroom suite. I'd love to replace them with some hand made ones, need to keep a look out for some.
I have my bedside lamp, bottle of water and at night my phone (I use it for an alarm).
That's all that is meant to be there. But currently there is also a brand new pair of jeans sitting there too waiting for me to pin and hem. Need to find me a sewing projects basket.
Brians bedside has a doily and lamp, clock radio, water bottle, tv remotes and a book.
If you like to read in bed at night, the bedside will be where you will keep your book more than likely, that's fine, but try to keep a maximum of two books there at a time. Anymore is just clutter.

Please link up your before and after pics either on the BDB Facebook page or in the linky below. Love to see everyone progress.

Homemade Sausage Rolls

The other week I had a hankering for homemade sausage rolls. I bought the ingredients last fortnight but with the weather being so hot I didn't cook them. Last night was the night though mmmmm.

Sausage Rolls
1kg packet of puff pastry *
1kg sausage mince **
1 onion, finely chopped
4 slices of bread, crusts removed ***
1-2 tablespoons dried mixed herbs

Defrost your pastry.
Preheat oven to about 220C
Soak the bread with some hot water for a few minutes until it's nice and mushy.
Squeeze out the excess water from the bread and add to the mince, onion and herbs.
Using your hands mash the mix all together until it's evenly mixed.
Grab one sheet of pastry, cute in half horizontally.
Place some of the sausage mix into a piping bag.
Pipe a row of mix along the long edge of one half of the pastry, then repeat with the other half.
Brush the other long edges with a little milk.
Roll up the sausage rolls.
I like to just cut ours into two big sausage rolls, but feel free to do mini ones if you wish.
Place on a lined tray and repeat with the remaining mix.
Brush the tops of the rolls with more milk.
Bake in the oven until nice and golden.

I like to make my rolls nice and fat so usually end up with one sheet of pastry leftover. Rather than popping it back in the freezer where it's likely to get forgotten or broken I use it to make pinwheels. Yesterday was chutney and cheese.
You can sprinkle the rolls with sesame or poppy seeds if you like after you have painted them with the milk.

* I use Coles or Woolies brand pastry, no need for the expensive stuff
** You can use beef or chicken mince if you prefer. I often make healthier ones using low fat mince and add grated veg and cheese into the mix too.
*** use what ever bread you have on hand, older bread is better than fresh, but doesn't matter if it's white or grainy.

Morning Patient

While I was blogging and checking forums this morning Ethan came in from outside crying holding his hand.
He asked for a bandaid. After a quick inspection there was no blood so I offered a cold facewasher instead and to sit down and I'll pop ABC2 on for him. So he cheekily said that he'd need a pillow and a rug too.
Of course he had to smile for the photo.
