Let's Get Organised Wk29 ~ Dining Room

This week we start on a new room!!! The Dining room!!!

The dining room for many people tends to be a catch all space. Either the dining table is covered with stuff that you have to clear off each night for dinner, or you eat in front of the tv because you can't be bothered. Or there is a sideboard that tends to have everything dumped on it.
Either way this month we will get it organised!

This weeks missions:
~ Clear off the dining table
~ Give it a good clean and polish, including the chairs
~ Set with a nice table cloth
~ Eat here every night once it's cleared :)

We sit at the table every night for dinner so our table isn't cluttered, but please don't open the hutch!

Would love to see what your dining table looks like. Before and Afters would be fabulous. Please link up below or post up on the BDB Facebook Wall.

Levi and Lilly

Yesterday was my brothers nieces 1st birthday party. She is so adorable. I had to make something special. It was her brothers 3rd birthday on Mothers Day too but we decided to stay home for Mothers Day this year seeing as Brian actually had the morning off (read I got to sleep in!!). So that was 2 presents I got to have fun with.

First of all I made Levi's present. What little boy doesn't need a special box to put his special treasures in. I used a Kaiser trinket box and decorated it with Kaisers Cockadoodledoo range. You see Levi just loves horses, but I didn't want the box to be too kiddish, I wanted it to grow with him. So I used lots of the patterned papers for the box but had to include a layered chippie on his card.

Then there was Lilly's present. OMG to be able to play with cute girls papers was just heaven!!!

I used a Kaiser Trinket set for this too along with their Fine and Sunny range.
The crocheted goodies are from Lime Tree Creations and the little resin flowers are from Handmade Halo.
Normally I paint the insides of my drawer sets but this time I lined them with more pp.

I absolutely loved creating these pieces and can't wait to get cracking on some more presents soon!

Let's Get Organised Wk 28 ~ DVD's

This is our last week is the Family Room.

If there is one thing that needs a good sort out for us, other than toys, that would be our DVD's. We don't keep them in their cases much. The most commonly used ones are kept in a DVD case where we can just slip them out. Saves so much more room. But the kids do get to them and they can get pretty grotty from time to time. So....

This weeks missions are:
~ Tidy your DVD's, PlayStation/Wii games
~ Give them a clean
~ Run a cleaning system through your machines

Hopefully this will be a pretty easy task and not take too long.

Would love for you to share your DVD and 'video' games storage systems. Link up below or post to the BDB Facebook Wall.

Menu Planning 19th July ~ 1st August

{Becci's Special Baked Beans}

Wow August at the end of this fortnight. Do you know what that means??? It's my second youngest's birthday this fortnight! Can't believe he's going to be 4! That also means he starts Kindy pre entry today!!!

This fortnight a big focus will be on Ethans 4th Birthday. We are just having cake, some party food and coffee at our place with friends and family. Nothing big. Next year will be big though!
Ethans decided he wants an escavator cake this year. We're also going to make some lolly face cupcakes, and I might try my hand at a cookie pizza! Savoury foods will be cocktail franks, party pies and sandwiches.
Ethan has requested hamburgers for dinner. Brian will be working and Randall probably will too so I might splurge and take the kids to Maccas for dinner, otherwise we'll make them at home.
Speaking of birthdays we have a special little girls 1st birthday to attend this weekend. Seeing as we'll probably be full of party food (well at least the kids will be) and we'll be out all arvo I'm going to make a Spaghetti Bologniase Bake to reheat when we get home.

Now for the rest of the menu plan:

Thurs ~ Sweet and Sour Meatballs (leftover from last fortnights menu plan)
Fri ~ Baked Spuds
Sat ~ Marinated Chicken Steaks and veg
Sun ~ Spaghetti Bolognaise Bake
Mon ~ Rolled Lamb Roast and veg (lamb is $8.99/kg!)
Tues ~ Quiche, Baked spuds and salad
Wed ~ Special Baked Beans

Thurs ~ French Onions Drumsticks
Fri ~ Lamb chops and veg
Sat ~ Chicken Pie
Sun ~ Pork Belly Roast

Chocolate Caramel Chip Cupcakes

I was so excited a few weeks back when someone of Facebook posted a picture of the new Nestle Caramel Choc Chips! I have been wanting some for so long. I see so many American recipes that require butterscotch chips that I want to try and I just cannot justify the price some online stores charge for them, it's just not within my budget.
Since that day I have been scouring Woolies and Coles waiting for them to appear. Well yesterday was the day! I popped into Coles for a couple of things and just happened to walk past a Nestle display and there they were! Bonus that Nestle has a promotion on at the moment where if you buy any 3 Nestle baking items you can receive a free kids apron. So of course that's what I did. Will have to get another come shopping day though as Eli scored this one and Ethan wants one too.

Eli's been itching to bake with me since so today we decided to bake some choc cupcakes and pop the caramel bits in them.

We used our favourite cupcake recipe form, added a heaped dessertspoon of cocoa, am extra splash of milk and a cup of the caramel bits. There was enough caramel bits leftover in the pack to sprinkle on top of the cupcakes before they went in the oven and also for the kids to sneak!

OMG they are so yum! 7 have been eaten by the fam while I have been writing this post. Doubt there will be any left for dessert as planned lol

Lets Get Organised Wks 26 & 27~ The Family Room

This month we are going to focus on the Family Room. The main items in our family room that need to be decluttered and organised on an on going basis are the boys toys.

This weeks missions:
~ Declutter your childrens toys
~ Organise them

My boys birthday are soon, Ethans at the end of the month and Eli's is six weeks later. So now is the perfect time to declutter their toys to make way to the next lot they'll receive. We don't tend to buy them many toys but buy the time friends and family buy they end up with so much!

My life is pretty crazy here at the moment. I have the usual things happening like two young children, Lime Tree, personal craftiness for pleasure and presents and I am also helping to fundraise for a local family (more about that soon). So I think this will be a project to do over two weeks instead of the usual one. I know I'm going to need the extra time, how about you?

I'd love to see how you store your childrens toys. Link up below with your blog post or share your pics on the BDB Facebook page. Do you have any questions about how best to store your kids toys? Then ask away at BDB too!

Menu Plan 5th ~ 18th July

I am very excited this week! The butcher that we have been travelling over an hour to see every few moths for our bulk shop has opened up a shop front here locally! Well Victor Harbor which is about 5 minutes away and where I do my main shopping anyways.
So now I don't have to worry about a massive bulk shop. I'll still buy things in reasonable quanities but maybe $50-$100 at a time when I see items that we use regularly on special instead!
So this weeks menu is in part based around their specials this week.
The have lots of stores all through Adelaide so if you'd like to check them out for yourself then head over to their website at Gawler River Cattle Co.

The specials I am taking advantage of this fortnight are:
~ Twin pack of chickens $6.99 ~ one for the freezer the other will be for soup
~ Legs of Pork $3.99/kg ~ for a roast obviously :)
~ Chicken snitzels $4.99/kg ~ will top them some how
~ Country Chicken Sausages $3.99/kg ~ will have them just grilled with veg so I can really taste them and check to see if they aren't too salty

Thurs ~ Spaghetti Bolognaise and Garlic Bread
Fri ~ Chicken, Noodle and Veg soup
Sat ~ Loaded Wedges
Sun ~ leftovers
Mon ~ Roast Pork
Tues ~ Loaded Chicken Snitzels
Wed ~ Beef Scallopini

Thurs ~ Chicken Sausages and veg
Fri ~ Shepherds Pie
Sat ~ Pumpkin Soup
Sun ~ Roast chicken
Mon ~ Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni
Tues ~ Lamb chops and veg
Wed ~ Sweet and Sour Meatballs

This fortnights baking is taking a different turn this fortnight. I have been helping to fundraise for a local family who tragically lost their son in an accident here on Easter Sunday. We are holding a massive raffle with so many local businesses coming on board, a sausage sizzle at the local Fig Tree Market and also at the market will be a cake stall. So my baking this week will all be for fundraising. I have planned a few whole cakes, some cookies in various flavours and am currently trying to source some plastic cups with lids so I can make some jelly cups to sell too.
If you would like to donate either time, cash or goods please head over to the Dew Family Fundraiser page on Facebook and let them know I sent you :)

Would love to see your menu plans. Link them up below or post them on the BDB Facebook Wall.

Lets Get Organised Wk25 ~ Tax Time

I completely forgot to pop back and write up this post last week Ooops!!

So yes here we are the second day in the new financial year! Who's organised???? Wow no need to groan that loudly!!! :))

This weeks missions:
~ Collect all your tax information for the 2011-12 financial year and have it ready for you accountant
~ Set up a system for keeping all your receipts etc for the 2012-13 financial year

Lets start with the last financial year. Do you know where all your receipts etc are???
I want to to find some time this week to collect everything you have so that it's ready once your group certificates come in to make doing your tax much easier. Find a folder or envelope that you can keep it in and pop it in your filing system under Tax 2011-12.
Make sure you get everything you need. Don't forget bank statements of interest earned, receipts, union fees and documentation of anything else that you regularly claim or think you might be able to claim.

Now lets work out a better system for keeping things as they come in for next Tax time.

We don't have a great deal to claim so our system is pretty simple. We use one of these mini expanding filing systems similar to the ones above that I bought for a few dollars at Big W a while back. I have a few of the pockets labelled for different receipts that I need to keep. Then I store the file in one of our filing cabinet drawers.
I actually have another one of these that I use to pay out bills will. Have sections for electricity, phone/internet, Austar and newspaper. Plenty of other pockets for other accounts that might pop up too.
I put a ziplock bag into each section then I can put the correct amount (or as close as I can) in the zippy along with the actual account and it's easy when I go to the Post Office to pay it all.
Anyways slightly off track there. You may choose to use a ringed binder with a plastic sleeve for each item you need to keep. Or maybe a pretty shoe box on a shelf to pop your receipts in with maybe a a few bull dog clips in there to separate different types of receipts.
Whatever system you choose to use, make sure it's simple and a system that you will actually use!

Would love to see your Tax Filing Systems. I'm sure there are some fabulous systems out there. Link up below or on the BDB Wall.
