Blogtober ~ Day 31!!!

I made it!!! I blogged everyday for a whole month!!!

I honestly wasn't sure if I would make it or not. Especially when gastro struck us twice. Lucky I was organised and had posts scheduled most of the time.

So what have I learnt?
I have learnt that I CAN DO IT!!!
That I really do need to get a blog planner to keep myself organised.
That I do have lots more I can blog about.
People are interested in what I have to say!

So where to from here?
Well I won't be blogging everyday. Probably every few days until next year when I plan to blog 5 days a week.
I've devised a bit of a plan as to how I want that to work and I think it's going to work really well.

I have a bit of a poll happening on our FaceBook page asking what sort of posts you would like to see more of. Would love for you to take part if you have a spare minute or two. Feel free to add more options and to leave a comment either here or on the poll.

Thanks so much for everyone who has been reading along and to Kat at I Saw You Dancing for hosting this fab event this year

Choc Chip Banana Caramel Pie

Yesterday was my birthday and I decided that I would like a Banana Caramel Pie for my birthday 'cake'.
I saw some links on Pinterest to some pies using a choc chip cookie base instead of the usual pastry so thought I'd give that a go.

I just used my Condensed Milk Cookie dough. About 1/2 the batch made two big pies. I baked them at 180C for I think about half an hour? I didn't really look at the time, when they were nice and golden I took them out.
I thought the bases seemed a little thick, hard to get them thin with the choc chips, but they turned out fine. The edges were a little thick though.

I boiled up the best caramel ever but popping these two cans of sweetened condensed milk in a saucepan of water. Make sure the cans are covered. Bring to the boil then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 3 hours. Making sure the water doesn't evaporate, just top up if needed.
I have used generic and brand name cans. Normal topped and pull ring and all work just as well as each other.
You can also do this in the slow cooker. If you have a white slow cooker insert like I do, I would recommend placing some alfoil in the bottom of the insert to stop any rust marks. Black inserts wouldn't be a problem though.
Cover with water and cook on low for 7-8 hours.

Makes the best caramel. This one isn't as dark as usual but still tastes yummo!
You can keep this for months in the fridge. Apparently goes well just back in the cupboard too but I haven't been game to try that. Couldn't bare to have caramel go off!

Then when it comes to assembling the pie you just slice bananas on the bottom. Pour over the caramel. Better to do this while it's still warm from cooking otherwise it can be a pain to try and spread it without dislodging the bananas.
If you've poured it warm allow to cool and then top with whipped cream.

Just a little sneak of a tunisian scarf I am making for a christmas present. Love how this stitch looks like knitting.
I am using Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury yarn (machine washable wool) in 8ply. The colour is Brick.
I'm having aweful trouble with the ends rolling though. Hoping it will be ok once it's blocked. The yellow dishcloth was the same too.
Any tips on how to stop the ends rolling? It's not just a little bit it's inches!

Christmas 2011 ~ A cushion for Mother in Law

My Mother In Laws house is decorated in blue so I knew she'd love a cushion make in blue and off white.
She loved this cushion and is now hinting at a queen size cream blanket done the same :)

Christmas 2011 ~ A basket for my sister

For my sister I made some baked apple pie sugar scrub, hand crocheted some face washers and some make up pads and added some handmade soap to a basket.
Excuse the dodgy night time photo, I took this late on Christmas Eve as I was wrapping.

Menu Plan 25th October ~ 7th November

Well last fortnights frugal meal plan didn't go too badly. I could have done with more eggs and cheese for sandwiches though.
I didn't bake half as many desserts or goodies as I had planned though. Having gastro go through the house was partly responsible for that. But at least I have those ingredients already on hand to add to this fortnights menu.
This fortnight also includes my birthday. I would have loved to have bought a nice big leg of lamb and roasted it up but that's not going to happen, so instead we'll be having yummy beef snitzels with mushie gravy and some of my favourite veg. A yummo dessert to follow too.

Menu Plan:
Thurs ~ Spaghetti Bolognaise and Garlic Bread {sauce is already cooked and in the freezer}
Fri ~ Crumbed lamb chops and veg
Sat ~ Leftover KFC and veg {we had some pieces in the freezer that needed using}
Sun ~ Shepherds Pie
Mon ~ Beef snitzels, mushroom gravy, potato bake, roast pumpkin and broccoli
Tues ~ Tuna Pasta and Garlic Bread
Wed ~ Homemade Pizza

Thurs ~ Honey Baked Chicken and veg
Fri ~ Eggs on toast
Sat ~ Devilled Sausages and veg
Sun ~ Fried Rice
Mon ~ Fish fingers and veg
Wed ~ Baked Spuds

Choc Chip Banoffee Pie {birthday dessert}
Creamed Rice
Apple Crumble
Apple Slice

Fruit Cake

Do you menu plan??? Would love for you to share it. Link up below or post on the Becci's Domestic Bliss FaceBook Wall.

Christmas 2011 ~ Flavoured Nuts

For my Dad and FIL I decided to make up some flavoured nuts for them. A couple of the recipes came from a book I have so I'm not sure I can share the recipe due to copyright laws, but one of them can be found here.
I popped them in some cello bags and ties with red and white yarn. I punched the tag from some kraft cardstock and simply wrote what flavour they were on them.

Let's Get Organised Wk40 ~ Ornaments

This week we are going to focus on our surfaces. All those photo frames and ornaments mostly.

This weeks mission:
~ Declutter your ornaments, photo frames and other items on your surfaces
~ Box up items that can be redistributed to family, friends or charity
~ Dust all your precious items
~ Dust and polish all surfaces
~ Have fun redisplaying your prized possessions

Start with one surface. Have a good look at what it on that surface. Is there too much? Do you love everything? Are they sentimental? Are they pretty? Do they make you smile?
If they don't do any of these things then they are more than likely clutter.
Consider removing them and blessing someone else with them. If they are special family items then think of who in your family would cherish them.
If they don't belong to family then would a friend find them useful? Or should they go to charity?
Continue working through each surface in your lounge room and work your way through the other tasks too.

Would love to see your progress, please link up your blog post to the linky tool below or post on the Beccis Domestic Bliss FaceBook Wall.

Christmas 2011 ~ Altered photo frame

I have just realised that I never shared my handmade christmas presents from last year!
Over the next week I'll share them. Maybe you'll find some inspiration for your own handmade christmas.

I altered this photo frame for my brother Daniel. He lives in Cairns and is often as king for photos of the boys. I chose three of our favourite photos of the previous year and decorated it simply.

Tunisian :)

Yesterday I thought I'd give Tunisian crochet a go. I played with it years ago and liked it but this time I thought I'd try a dishcloth with it.

I love how it turned out.
I missed a couple of stitches and the edging scallops aren't even but I was just playing really.
Going to start another project tonight using a different stitch. Will be a christmas present so will only be able to show you sneaks.

Have you tried Tunisian crochet before? Would love to see your work.

Change of seasons

Ahhhh it's so nice to have the weather warming up again! I felt as though this winter was a very long cold one this year.
I have loved having this blanket on our bed but it's time to pack her away for a few months now!
I'll be washing the boys sheets today too and will be replacing their flannel sheets with cotton ones.

Have you changed to summer bed linen yet??

Freezer organising

Yesterday I decided to sort out my upright freezer. There were two reasons why I wanted to do this. One I wanted to group like with like so I could make the most of what's in there during these lean times and now that the weather is warming up I want to make some ice for drink, so that needed it's own shelf.

I was so keen to get stuck into it that I totally forgot to take a before photo. Trust me it was totally disorganised. Stuff shoved where ever it would fit.

Top shelf: Ice cream and Brians homemade frozen dinners
Second shelf: Baking stuff - stewed apples, puréed oranges, sweet potato mash, broken cake for trifle
Third shelf: Will be the ice shelf
Fourth shelf: Various bits of meat
Fifth shelf: Misc - bacon pieces, garlic bread, party pies for the kids, ice packs
Bottom basket: frozen veg and meat for the dogs

I found quite a few bags of chicken bones and carcasses, so I'm in the process of making a couple of batches of chicken stock which I'll freeze for later.

Feels so much better to have this freezer organised. I can see exactly what I have in there now.

Do you have your freezer sorted into 'stations'?

We're sick :(

Unfortunately gastro has hit us this weekend. Well me it has. Ethan started showing symptoms last night to so much to his disgust I'm keeping him home from kindy today just to make sure.
So there will be no LGO post this week. Please use this week to catch up on things that you haven't got around to, and if you are all up to date? Go you! You can have a week off!

We always get stuck into the raspberry cordial and spray everything with Glen 20 when a tummy bug hits us.

What are your best Gastro busting remedies????

Ta Da!

I've been wanting to make one of these bags for quite a while. I loved making the squares, they are really easy. In fact I am sure I'll be using these instead of the other flowers for my queensize blanket for our bed next year.
You can find the pattern here. I've obviously fudged up sewing it together as my sides aren't straight but that's easy to fix next time I make one.

Just love these colours!
